Increase in the number of permanently employed

In August 4 685 000 (± 37 000) persons aged 15-74 years were employed. The number of permanently employed increased while the number of temporarily employed decreased. In August 256 000 (± 18 000) persons, or 5.2 (± 0.4) percent of the labour force, were unemployed.

In August 4 685 000 (± 37 000) persons aged 15-74 years were employed. There was no statistically significant difference in the number of employed compared to August 2007. The number of permanently employed increased by 98 000 persons or 2.9 percent during the same period. Among young people aged 15-24 years the number of permanently employed increased by 32 000 persons or 15.8 percent.

At the same time the number of temporarily employed decreased by 69 000 persons or 8.5 percent. On average, the number of hours worked was 114.8 (± 1.9) million hours per week. After adjustment for differences caused by holiday leaves due to calendar differences there has been no statistically significant change in the number of hours worked compared with August 2007.

During August 256 000 (± 18 000) persons, or 5.2 (± 0.4) percent of the labour force, were unemployed. There was no statistically significant difference in the number of unemployed and in the unemployment rate compared to a year ago.
