The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) unveiled an ambitious plan yesterday aimed at boosting Taiwan's textile industry production value by NT$100 billion before 2015, up from the current NT$90 billion.

The plan includes increasing the output value of textile products, promoting research in new local textile products through alliances and boosting Taiwan's fashion industry, according to Taiwan Technical Textile Association (TTRI).

The MOEA reportedly set up the Textile Industry Promotion Office (TIPO) on July 31, which has been in charge of giving an impetus to the program and providing a platform for its implementation.

Besides, the MOEA and the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office in Taiwan announced yesterday the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between Taiwan and the Netherlands, aimed at enhancing international cooperation and encouraging foreign investment.

Wang Ya-ger, director of the Industrial Development Bureau under the MOEA, and Memo Goedhart, director of the Netherlands Trade and Investment Office, signed the innovative cooperation agreement in the presence of Wang Yea-kang, chairman of TTRI.

Dr. Chi-chung Bai, president of TTRI, and Gerard Vaandrager, managing director of the Netherlands Council for Trade and Promotion (NCH), were designated to undertake the planned cooperation program.

"Taiwan is an important player in many fields including the textile industry," said Vaandrager.

The plan covers mutual cooperation in developing and marketing top high-tech fabrics; fostering technical advancement and market collaboration; as well as push forward future cooperation agreements between the Taiwan and the Netherlands, explained Wang Yea-kang.

The cooperation agreement was organized in collaboration with the NCH, as well as the TIPO, TTRI, Taiwan Textile Federation, Taiwan Technical Textile Association and the Taiwan Composite Association.

In the future, the TIPO indicated that it will rely on the same kind of international cooperation in connecting respective national organizations and respective industries.
