IJSJ to host international conference on jute in Feb 2009

Mr. Charles Whitely, Vice Chairman of the IJSG Council and First Secretary, Head of Political, Trade, Press and Information Section, Delegation of European Commission to Bangladesh met Mr. Sudripta Roy, Secretary General of the IJSG at its headquarters in Dhaka on 17 September 2008.
They discussed several issues relating to the activities of the Group and world jute economy. Mr. Roy informed the Vice Chairman of the interest shown by the Malaysian Government to become full member of IJSG.
He talked about the proposed meeting with the permanent representatives to the United Nations in New York to expedite the issue of membership.
Mr. Roy told him that the IJSG Secretariat has been organising an international conference on jute and kenaf during 8-9 February 2009 to be held in Dhaka in observance of the International Year of Natural Fibres (IYNF) 2009.
He said that the Group is trying its best to rebuild the image of jute, the versatile natural fibre through various promotional activities.
Apart from the effective role of the member governments, Mr. Charles Whitely put emphasis on more involvement of the private sector in the Group and underlined the need for enhanced marketing opportunities for jute and jute products of improved quality.
Mr. Whitely also visited the IJSG Display Centre and expressed his happiness on seeing the range of collection of diversified jute products of different countries.
Mr. Md. Faruque Hossain, Finance & Administrative Officer and Mr. Dewan Sayeedul Hassan, Media and Information Officer of the IJSG were present during the discussion.
