Commerce initiates antidumping duty investigation of certain woven electric blankets from the people's republic of china.
• On July 21, the Department of Commerce (Commerce) announced its decision to initiate an antidumping (AD) investigation on imports of certain woven electric blankets from the People's Republic of China (China).
• Dumping occurs when a foreign company sells a product in the United States at less than normal value.
• The petitioner for this investigation is Jarden Consumer Solutions (FL).
• The products covered by this investigation are finished, semi-finished, and unassembled woven electric blankets, including woven electric blankets commonly referred to as throws, of all sizes and fabric types, whether made of man-made fiber, natural fiber or a blend of both.
• The products covered by these investigations are currently classified in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (“HTSUS”) under item number: 6301.10.000. While the HTSUS subheading is provided for convenience and customs purposes, Commerce's written description of the subject merchandise governs the scope of this investigation.
• From 2006 to 2008, imports of woven electric blankets from China increased 16.8 percent by volume and were valued at an estimated $29.7 million in 2008.
NEXT STEPS
• The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) is scheduled to make its preliminary injury determination on or about August 14.
• If the ITC determines that there is a reasonable indication that imports are materially injuring, or threatening material injury to, the domestic industry, the investigation will continue, and Commerce will be scheduled to make its preliminary AD determination on December 7.
