A handloom fair has been organized by Jharcraft, a wing of Jharkhand Industries Department, in a bid to provide a platform to the weavers of the state. Fair that begins, next month would be held every month from September to March.

Ranchi, Hazaribagh, Dhanbad, Giridih, Deoghar and Jamshedpur are the six districts of the state where the fair would be organized in cooperation with the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, Government of India.

The fair will be open for nine days in each district comprising of about 20 stalls displaying hand woven saris, salwar suits, dupattas and stoles, in an area of 3,000 sq. ft. It will facilitate weavers to have direct interaction with buyers.

This much-needed fair will prove to be a substantial platform for the state weavers to market their products and attract the target customers. There are about 25,000 weavers in the state who receive regular training from Jharcraft in design and development.

To impart training to cocoon breeders, spinners, weavers and their families as well as to develop new designs, Jharcraft has joined hands with institutes such as National Institute of Design (NID) and National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

This fair will provide an opportunity to make the masses know about the craft work and products manufactured by the weavers in the state and to create an extensive market. It would allow the weavers to expand their work and aid them with great economic support.

Jharcraft intends to market the high-in-demand products, such as saris and other products designed on the famous Maluti temple of Dumka, as this would offer better gains to the agency and the weavers as well.

The fair will display saris ranging between Rs. 500 and Rs. 5000, woven by the artisans from Godda and Kharsawan, who have been imparted training at Bangalore Central Silk Board for 10 days.
