The Government of Pakistan and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have launched new initiatives aimed at identifying missing inputs in a bid to increase exports from the country and is also expected to assist in better implementation of the textile and trade policy.

This will also lead to increasing the levels of diversification and sophistication of the country's export basket. The main objective is to identify missing inputs like certifications, knowledge about export markets, specific regulations, etc, that are crucial in order to export successfully.

In order to achieve the objectives, the government has constituted a steering committee in the Ministry of Commerce, which has been given the mission to initiate ten pilot programmes with the private sector in ten product categories.

These products include gems and jewellery, meat and preparations, non-metallic minerals, dairy products, oils and perfume materials, medicinal and pharmaceutical products, general industrial machinery and equipment, bonded fibre fabrics and textiles fabrics for use in machinery or plant.
