In a bid to attract global handicraft buyers towards Pakistani handicraft items, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) will organize “International Handicrafts Exhibition” in February of coming year, said Mr. Syed Mohibullah Shah, Chief Executive, TDAP, while addressing media people.

He further added that even though the country has enormous potential in handicrafts, it is far behind in exploiting it. Its last year's handicraft export totaled only to $5 million, though it has a potential to generate huge foreign exchange through the export of handicraft products. Handicraft export of India stood at $1 billion, last year and of Vietnam it was $800 million.

The overall global business of handicrafts is anticipated at $250 billion per annum. In order to expand the exports of the country, the TDAP chief dwelt on the new export strategy to diversify the products to be exported.

To expand the export base it is extremely important to diversify products and the market and TDAP is currently doing so. Currently, the target is set on those sectors, which have immense potential for exports, such as agro-food, minerals and services, which could not be exploited in the past to boost the overall export volume.

In a bid to develop the trade sector and enhance its exports, various projects and programs have been undertaken, informed Mr. Shah.
