The world's top textile scientists were honored during AATCC's 2005 International Conference & Exhibition (IC&E) in Boston, Massachusetts, on October 25-27, at the Hyatt Harborside.
The awards were presented at the Association's conference Awards Luncheon on Thursday, October 27, 2005, at the Hyatt Harborside in downtown Boston, Massachusetts.
In recognition for his outstanding service to the Association, AATCC has named Fred L. Cook this year's recipient of THE HAROLD C. CHAPIN AWARD.
Cook, a native of Jackson, Georgia, holds a BS in textile chemistry with a minor in chemical engineering, and a PhD in organic/polymer chemistry, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology (GIT).
He joined GIT in 1975 as an assistant professor and is today a tenured professor there.
A member of the AATCC since 1968, Fred L Cook has served with great distinction in both the technical and administrative functions of the Association.
Cook has served as regional board member and Vice-President of the Southern Region and Councilor, as well as chair of the Materials Interest Group.
He has also served on and chaired a number of technical and administrative committees for the Association.
Additionally, he has served as a student faculty advisor, and served on the steering committee that organized the 1986 AATCC IC&E in Atlanta.
He has won the J W Weaver Paper of the Year Award for a paper published in the Textile Chemist & Colorist.
