During the fiscal year 2009-10, ending March 31 2010, 31 showrooms and sales depots belonging to Coir Board sold coir products amounting to Rs 140.6 million.
According to the board, this was an all-time high and a little more than the set target of Rs 140 million for the period in consideration. During the previous financial year, sales of coir products amounted to about Rs 111.4 million.
With sales of key products such as power loom mats, rubber coirs and handloom goods, showrooms in Jammu, Rachi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Guntur, Mumbai, Bhubaneswar and Madurai achieved more than 100 percent of their set target for the 2009-10 period.
The coir board will soon launch its first-ever e-marketing section of coir products. According to VS Vijayaraghavan, Board Chairman, this web portal will display an array of coir products and consumers will be able to place orders and make payments online for their products. Following which, the goods will be shipped to their doorstep in a specified time period.
This new initiative is to aid consumers across the country find out their coir products, directly.
