The successful collaboration between Converse and Marimekko continues: July will see the launch of the anticipated fifth Converse  Marimekko collection. The new collection will introduce the iconic sneaker models, Chuck Taylor All Star Hi, Chuck Taylor Ox and Jack Purcell Helen, in graphic Marimekko prints from Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi, Annika Rimala and Maija Louekari.

The upcoming Converse Marimekko collection includes colourful prints from the early years of Marimekko as well as favourites from the past decade. The subtle Pirput parput pattern by Finnish design icon Vuokko Eskolin-Nurmesniemi is one of the most beloved Marimekko prints of the 1950s.

Also Annika Rimala’s Papajo, inspired by the carvings found in Maya temples that Rimala saw on her trip to Mexico, represents the playful graphic look of the early decades. Both patterns will bring a splash of colour to the Chuck Taylor All Star Hi sneakers.

Maija Louekari’s Kippis and Siirtolapuutarha prints have already become Marimekko’s modern classics. Louekari got the inspiration to design Kippis from an idea to decorate a porcelain mug with drawings of crystal glasses in order to make it perfect for serving celebratory drinks.

The Siirtolapuutarha print describes country living in the city and the rich colours of an allotment. Kippis will be seen on the Chuck Taylor All Star Hi sneakers, while Siirtolapuutarha will decorate Jack Purcell Helen and Chuck Taylor Ox models.

The new Converse  Marimekko collection will be available starting from July 2012 at selected Marimekko stores, premium retail outlets and online.
