Hemptown bags Industry Innovation Award

Vancouver based eco-friendly apparel company, Hemptown has been chosen by Canada's Style Magazine as the 2006 recipient of its Industry Innovation award.
The award was announced in the February/March 2006 issue of the magazine and will be presented officially during Toronto Fashion Week March 13-18, 2006.
Jerry Kroll, CEO of Hemptown: "They are very proud to have been chosen by their peers for this innovation award.
He is confident their win is a result of ten years of experience in environmentally sustainable textiles and the new breakthrough technology, CRAILAR, they are bringing to market."
Fashion industry members such as retailers, vendors, designers and students were eligible to vote via mail, fax or website ballot.
The three nominees were Hemptown, Danier Leather, a manufacturer and retailer of suede and leather products, and Nygard, which designs and retails several women's fashion labels.
Since 1995 Hemptown has been specializing in the design, wholesaling and retailing of eco-friendly textiles and apparel such as hemp, bamboo and soy.
Recently Hemptown and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) have developed a specialized Canadian-grown and spun hemp fibre, using a new technology called CRAILAR.
CRAILAR is an enzyme process that easily transforms raw hemp fibre into strong and soft apparel-quality fabric, resulting in a fabric with the economic potential of cotton at an environmentally sustainable level.
