Japan’s Sumitomo Chemical is likely to shut its caprolactam (CPL) plant, located at Niihama in Japan’s Ehime Prefecture, in the mid of October, 2013.

“The plant will remain closed for around 40 days for a maintenance turnaround,” a company official told fibre2fashion.

The CPL plant is expected to restart by end of November after the scheduled maintenance.

The plant has two CPL lines with production capacities of 100,000 mt/year and 80,000 mt/year.

The plant is presently operating at 80-90 percent of operating rates.

CPL is primarily used in the manufacture of synthetic fibres, especially Nylon 6.
