Foreign textile firm faces investigations for smuggling

Kanaan Co Ltd, accused of smuggling textiles in Duc Hoa Industrial Zone, southern Long An Province, is being investigated by economic police.
Financial investigators and HCM City Customs Office were recently informed of problems with a batch of textiles imported by Kanaan at Saigon Port.
Inspection of consignment revealed smuggling of millions of meters of fabric in order to avoid high import duties by the company.
Police searched headquarters of Kanaan for over four days to seek further evidence to confirm the firm's involvement in illegal imports.
The investigators concluded after the search that Kanaan had smuggled cloth and garment materials worth $2 million through processing contracts for foreign companies.
