Sara Lee appoints Cynthia Carroll to its Board of Directors

Sara Lee Corporation announced that its board of directors has elected Cynthia B. Carroll a director of the corporation, effective Aug. 1, 2006. Carroll's appointment brings the number of Sara Lee Corporation directors to 13.
Carroll, 49, is president and chief executive officer of Montreal-based Alcan Primary Metal Group, a division of Alcan Inc. In her current role, she is responsible for Alcan's aluminum smelting facilities and power generation installations, which is a US$10 billion business with nearly 18,000 employees and 54 wholly or partially-owned operations in 21 countries around the world.
“Cynthia is a proven leader, bringing extensive global experience and a track record for success to Sara Lee. She's lived and worked in countries throughout the world, including those geographies in which we already are operating, as well as other regions where we have strong growth opportunities,” said Brenda C. Barnes, chairman and chief executive officer of Sara Lee Corporation. “As Sara Lee becomes a more focused, integrated operating company, Cynthia's strengths will be a significant asset to our board of directors.”
Carroll joined Alcan in 1989 and has held positions of increasing responsibility that include president of Bauxite, Alumina and Specialty Chemicals, managing director of Aughinish Alumina Limited, and vice president and general manager of Alcan Foil Products.
Prior to Alcan, she worked at Amoco for eight years as a petroleum geologist.
