British adults prefer treated home textiles

Consumer demand for performance clothing is increasingly well established; however a new independent survey has revealed that home textiles are missing out.

The research conducted on behalf of Purista, the performance finish that keeps textiles fresher for longer, shows 52 percent of British adults to be interested in purchasing treated home textiles such as bed linen.

Although socks still remain the number one treated garment respondents would buy over any other 'freshness' treated item, a substantial number of consumers are asking for treated home textile products, due to time constraints in their hectic lifestyles.

Bed linen is often seen as a chore to wash, dry and iron so by adding a performance finish, such as Purista, to these, they do not need to be washed as often, yet they still retain that fresh, clean look and feel.

The survey also revealed that 45 percent of consumers are also keen to see towels with freshness enhancing treatments, for example, sports towels to avoid creating odours in gym bags after a workout.

The research, conducted by Taylor Nelson Sofres, showed that treated textiles are most popular amongst 16-34 year olds, with double the number of men having already purchased treated clothing and textiles compared to women.

It was revealed that consumers in this age group often have busy lifestyles and welcome items that make their lives easier.

Providing added-value finishes on household textiles means they can spend as little time as possible caring for these items.
