ACGRA new team to guide cotton research

Cotton Seed Distributors Ltd informed that The Australian Cotton Growers Research Association (ACGRA) has elected a new executive team to lead the cotton industry's future research directions and strategies.
At the Annual General Meeting held in Narrabri, new members Andrew Parkes (Moree) and John Hamparsum (Breeza), joined Hamish Millar (Emerald –Chairman), Ben Stephens (Narrabri – vice chairman), Cleave Rogan (St George), Joe Robinson (Moree), and Paul McVeigh (Dalby).
ACGRA is the grower body responsible for establishing research and extension priorities in the cotton industry, and also has a formal legislative role in advising the Cotton Research and Development Corporation (CRDC) on the research needs of the industry.
ACGRA chairman, Mr Hamish Millar, said the appointment of a full-time Executive Officer, Greg Kauter, has enabled the Association to be more effective in its role and responsibilities, despite a tough operating environment dominated by drought and low cotton prices.
“The highlight of the year was the organisation of a successful Australian Cotton Conference held at the Gold Coast in August which was a credit to the Association and to the industry, and testament to the industry's resilience.
“Despite the industry's adversities, the Conference was well attended and was an outstanding success, due to the relevant and timely program, the profile and professionalism of presenters, and the value that all sectors of the cotton industry place on research and development outcomes,” Hamish Millar said.
