USDA report, which predicts that hi-plains will produce world's third biggest cotton crop of 3.8 million bales, is being questioned by local farmers.
It will be improper to rely on the production forecast and believe that US will reap the third biggest crop, and to take this as a good interpretation, said Roger Haldenby, Vice President of Plains Cotton Growers (PCG).
He added that though producers have good harvest this year, there is a possibility of the cost of crop production to be greater than income from crop sales, which can hit US economy.
He said there were expectations of producing 3.3 million bales considering the loss of major dry land cotton due to drought conditions. He also added that farmers require dry October and November conditions to ensure growth of cotton crops.
