Federal Government has decided that Office of Workplace Services (OWS) will look into a dispute of job agreements concerning 300 employees of Feltex carpets in Victoria. Feltex is being acquired by Australian carpet manufacturer Godfrey Hirst.
Textile Union informed that Godfrey Hirst has instructed Feltex employees to sign individual contracts, failing which they would be deprived of their jobs and redundancy entitlements.
Michele O'Neil, Victorian Secretary of the Textile Union, said Feltex labourers may face problems as all award conditions underpinning present collective agreement of the union will be cancelled under AWA.
Company Spokesman David Wilson said that Hirst wants to give jobs to every Feltex employee and it has drafted a collective agreement for workers, which has been rejected by the union.
He added that company wants the union to accept this agreement and stop publicizing the matter to secure futures of employees and of itself.
