Alps set to launch its organic-cotton range in India

Alps Industries, the third-largest player in Indian home furnishings market, is set to launch its organic-cotton range in the domestic market. Simultaneously the company is in the process of establishing a 600-store retail spread to market its Vista brand.

The company grows cotton over 4,000 hectares using organic pesticides in north India and manufactures home furnishings based on this cotton.

Alps reported a turnover of Rs2.63 billion during 2005-06 and is targeting to achieve a turnover of Rs7.50 billion within next two years.

Alps industry is investing Rs5 billion across its eight units including four processing units with bulk of the investment on weaving and spinning plant at Hardwar.

The company also plans to double the area under cotton in Punjab over the next four years.

Market for home furnishings is around Rs50 billion but is dominated by unorganised players. The company expects overall market to grow to Rs200 billion by 2010.
