Aker to build Artenius Purified Terephthalic Acid plant in Sines

Aker Kvaerner has been awarded a contract to provide the engineering, procurement services and construction management for Artenius' new mega Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) plant, to be built in Sines, Portugal. The contract value to Aker Kvaerner is approximately GBP 20 million.
Paul Bartlett, Artenius Technology Director, said: "This is a key project for Artenius in our plans for expanding our PTA production in Europe. Aker Kvaerner's solid, global PTA project experience, backed up by the local engineering and construction support available, were important factors to us in ensuring a successful and predictable project completion."
The new plant will produce 700,000 tpa of PTA. The project commences immediately with construction scheduled to be complete in quarter 4 2009 and the plant on line early quarter 1 2010. Aker Kvaerner Powergas India in Mumbai is providing the detailed engineering, whilst Technoedif in Portugal will be working as sub-contractor to Aker Kvaerner providing engineering support and construction management assistance.

Aker Kvaerner has worked on more than 21 PTA facilities spanning more than 20 years. Currently, that representsaround 20 per cent of the world's PTA production capacity.
