Handicraft Corp celebrates sales upsurge

In the 36th Annual General Meeting of J&K Handicrafts Corporation held on December 7, it was announced that the Handicrafts Corporation has achieved a sale growth of 23 percent by November 2007 over previous year.
The meeting was chaired by Haji Abdul Rashid, Chairman, J&K Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation. Dignitaries like Lokesh Jha, Commissioner/Secretary Industries and Commerce and Abdul Majid Khanday, Managing Director Handicrafts Corporation also attended the meeting.
This year, sales target for handicrafts were set at Rs.12.27 crore by the Corporation. In the present fiscal, Handicraft Corporation has saved around Rs30 lakh by reducing expenditure.
This year, The Jammu and Kashmir Handicrafts (S&E) Corporation sold around 2000 head-scarves worth Rs8.60 lakh at its stall of Arts Emporium at the India International Trade Fair-2007 (IITF2007) held at Pragati Maidan, in New Delhi.
The decision to hold different exhibitions across the country till February, 2008 and showcase handicraft products was also taken up in the meeting.
In order to boost the sales of the handicrafts artifacts, the body is also exploring various opportunities to open new stores in big cities like Delhi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
