Furnisher Lowe & clients set $7mn fund for Katrina relief

North Carolina based home furnishing and improvement Company Lowe's customers have responded to calls for donations for those affected by Hurricane Katrina by contributing more than $5.1 million in less than three weeks to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in Lowe's stores nationwide.

Including Lowe's match of $2 million, the company and its customers have raised more than $7 million for Red Cross disaster relief. Lowe's activated its in-store customer donation program on Monday, August 29 at all of its more than 1,125 stores nationwide, and will continue accepting donations throughout the month of September.

As of Friday morning, Lowe's had one store closed in Louisiana, and was focusing on replenishing more than 45 stores in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama with emergency products to assist in the rebuilding and recovery efforts.

Lowe's has been Improving Home Improvement for more than 59 years. In 2005, Lowe's earned several notable industry distinctions, including: Ranked 43 on the FORTUNE 500, Named 2003, 2004 and 2005 ENERGY STAR Retail Partner of the Year Operates more than 1,125 stores in 49 states.
