Chennai Petroleum Corp will suspend production for some of its units at its 190,000 barrels per day refinery in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in August for a planned maintenance, but is expected to continue normal exports of naptha and fuel oil.

As a consequence, output is likely to get pruned by around 33 percent for the month. The company will not only close a diesel hydro de-sulphurisation unit (DHDS) but also a crude distillation unit (CDU at Chennai) with a capacity of 60,000 barrels per day.

The DHDS will remain shut from August 4 for a period of four weeks which will be followed by the shutdown of its three million tons per annum CDU. However the company expects the loading of cargo in September to get delayed.

Chennai Petroleum is a subsidiary of the Indian Oil Corporation and operates two refineries in Tamil Nadu with a total capacity of 210,000 bpd.
