Dorel Industries Inc announced that Ameriwood Industries, the Company's ready-to-assemble domestic furniture division, is ramping up its Dowagiac, Michigan facility, where operations were suspended in July 2007.
A production line is being opened to accommodate the current demand in ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture product. It is anticipated that up to 100 manufacturing positions could be created over time as demand dictates.
Sales of RTA furniture were strong during the most recent quarter ended June 30, 2008, despite the overall slowdown in the home furnishings retail sector.
Demand for domestically produced product has increased markedly, allowing the segment's North American two main factories to run much more efficiently and necessitating the need for additional capacity at Dowagiac.
