Rohm and Haas to restart all plants at earliest affected by Ike

Rohm and Haas Company provided the following update about operations that were affected by Hurricane Ike:

• Manufacturing operations in Weeks Island, Louisiana, resumed normal operations. Area flooding around the plant that impeded travel has subsided, allowing the workforce to return. Sites resuming activity included the Morton Salt Weeks Island mine and the Advanced Materials facility. These sites have a combined total of approximately 220 employees.

• The company continued an active employee program to reach out to its employees in Texas through the weekend. The safety of our employees and their families, and allowing them time to secure their personal property, remains important. To date, there is every indication that our workforce of more than 900 came through the storm safely. Employees are beginning to return to work as they can, though there are ongoing curfews and travel restrictions still in effect in the area.

• The physical plants in the greater Houston area – the Deer Park monomer facility, the Lone Star acrylic emulsion plant, and the Bayport specialty monomers and biocides facility – appear to have come through the effects of Hurricane Ike reasonably well. Startup of these facilities continues to be seriously hampered by the ability to ensure consistent supply of raw materials, water and, in the case of Bayport, electrical power.

Rohm and Haas continues to work with the interdependent network of suppliers and distribution providers in the region to determine when the company will be able to resume normal production operations at the Deer Park, Bayport and Lone Star sites.

We are committed to resuming production and supply of our products in the fastest, most cost efficient -- and safest -- manner possible. We will provide updates on our progress on a regular basis.
