Proenza Schouler creates first interior textile collection for Knoll Luxe

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of the widely acclaimed fashion house, Proenza Schouler, have created their first interior textile collection for Knoll Luxe. Inspired by their work on the runway, the six upholstery fabrics embody the designers' concept of "nonchalant luxury."

This is the second collection of fabrics presented by Knoll Luxe, a new brand of fine fabrics from Knoll Inc., launched last Spring and created with the executive office, top hotel and residential markets in mind.

"Throughout its 70 year history, Knoll has been committed to supporting top American designers. The company's connection with Proenza Schouler is the latest chapter in this regard," says Dorothy Cosonas, creative director of Knoll Luxe. "Proenza Schouler's sensibility, which is classic, modern and timeless, is in keeping with our tradition. I love their sense of color, their combination of large and small pattern scales, and their mixtures of dry and shimmering textures."

Knoll has been working with Proenza Schouler for over a year to translate runway fabrics into those that meet the rigorous requirements of interior use. All are based on existing fabrics as seen on the runway and have a palette distinctly driven by Proenza Schouler that includes clean neutrals with punches of rich, dramatic colors such as royal purple and deep berry.

The Collection
Mepal, a dramatic, large-scale, silk and linen damask, inspired by the Fall 2007 Runway Collection, is the signature pattern of the group. With a large 40" repeat, Mepal is a bit William Morris meets urban chic, taking a traditional design element and making it modern for today's market. Colors range from a moody dark navy and black combination (a Proenza Schouler signature) to a cool white on white and a more bold royal purple and emerald green. 77% Linen, 23% silk. 8 colorways.

Sandis is another striking pattern that translates an animal print from their Spring 2008 collection into a graphic, moiré-like, woven wood grain. It comes in 6 colorways and is composed of 67% cotton and 33% linen.

Gates is a glamorous, solid texture based on a sequined fabric that was used in an evening ensemble from Fall 2008. The high sheen of the original has been captured for interior use; it combines 22% silk, 23% linen, 41% cotton and 14% Lurex.

Worth, the heftiest texture in the collection, has a distinctive weave structure. Worth combines thick yarns to emulate the effect of a brocade from a suit neckline and pockets from their Resort 2007 collection. It comes in 9 colors and is composed of 57%cotton, 3% polyamide and 40% viscose.

Canaan, the foundation product in the mix, is from a vest in the Spring 2007 collection. This simple texture embodies easy sophistication and comes in 8 colors. 63% cotton, 15% polyamide, 12% Linen, 10% viscose.

Walker achieves an ethnic, tribal aesthetic through an opposing twill-like pattern in a rectangulargrid formation. The textured fabric comes in 6 colors and is composed of 46% Cotton, 24% linen, 20% viscose and 10% polyamide.
