Rhodia reinforces position in surfactants market

Rhodia has just completed the acquisition of its minority partner's shares in the joint venture Rhodia Thai Industries Limited. Rhodia Thai industries Ltd currently employs 80 people and is based in Bangpoo, Thailand. Initially manufacturing aspirin, the company developed a surfactants activity to respond to the growing demand in Thailand and in the Asia-Pacific region for numerous markets: home and personal care, agrochemicals, coatings, oil field and industrial applications.
“This transaction follows the acquisition of the US-based surfactants manufacturer McIntyre in February 2009 and the recent start up of our new surfactants unit in Roha(India). The purchase of our minority partner's shareholding in Thailand is in line with Rhodia's strategy to grow businesses in which we hold strong leadership positions and reinforce our global presence in the specialty surfactants market” said Pascal Juery, President of Rhodia Novecare.
Through its Novecare business, Rhodia has a global footprint in surfactants with plants in North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific (China, Thailand, India, Indonesia and Japan).
Present in Asia-Pacific for more than 40 years, Rhodia's operations in the region have grown very rapidly over the last ten years and today employ 3200 people (22 percent of Rhodia Group employees), generating €1291 million (28 percent of Group turnover) with 20 production sites.
