Shaw to expand Petkim ethylene project

The Shaw Group Inc. announced it has been awarded a contract by Petkim Petrochemical Holding AS to provide engineering and procurement services and additional study work for an ethylene plant capacity expansion in Aliaga, Turkey. Shaw built the original 300 kTA plant in 1986 and performed basic engineering for the previous capacity revamp to 520 kTA in 1999. The new expansion will increase ethylene production capacity by approximately 10 percent.
The undisclosed value of the contract will be included in the Energy & Chemicals segment's backlog of unfilled orders in the first quarter of fiscal year 2010.
“Shaw-designed ethylene plants have established a global reputation for exceptionally high operational reliability, rapid startup and superior performance,” said Lou Pucher, president of Shaw's Energy & Chemicals Group. “Our revamp experience and know-how, coupled with our intimate knowledge of the Aliaga plant, has allowed us to identify capacity gains that other licensors and contractors would not be able to achieve.”

Since 1990, Shaw technology has been selected for 35 percent of the world's ethylene capacity increases.
