Toray establishes Torayca Reinforced Plastics Department

Toray Industries Inc announced that the company established Torayca Reinforced Plastics Department, a new specialized organization aimed at expanding the business of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compounds. The new department is under the Resins Division.

Torayca Reinforced Plastics Department will handle all of Toray's carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compounds that used to be sold by both Torayca & Advanced Composites Division and Resins Division. The move signifies Toray's intention to accelerate its efforts in new product and application development as well as cultivation of the market in the field of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compounds.

Toray aims to develop optimal carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compounds by bringing together its expertise in carbon fiber-related technologies, built over years, and its proprietary polymer alloy and polymer modification techniques. Toray combines carbon fibers with matrix resins that are primarily selected from its own engineering plastics and other thermoplastic compounds. Moreover, it plans to offer new solutions to customers by incorporating wide-ranging technological services including product design support and molding process technology support developed in its resin business.

Toray's carbon fiber Torayca boasts the world's biggest market share and has been adopted in various fields for its superior properties including light weight, hardness, electromagnetic shield, conductivity, rub resistance, and wear resistance. Torayca Reinforced Plastics Department integrates Torayca with Toray's proprietary polymer alloy technologies including nano-alloy to offer carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic compounds that are easier to process and economically superior to bring cost benefits to its customers. Moreover, the department plans to enhance collaborations with Toray Group's molding and processing companies in Japan and abroad as well as the Torayca & Advanced Composites Division with an eye on offering carbon fiber-reinforced injection-molded products in the medium-term.
