A fire broke out at the No – 1 cracker of Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (FPC) located in Mailiao at 11.50 A.M on July 7, due to which it was shut down.

The cause of the fire is due to a leakage in the distillation tower of the cracker, which has a production capacity of 700,000 tons per annum.

A senior company official who spoke to fibre2fashion confirmed the news of the fire and said that the other two naphtha crackers were operating at normal production capacities.

The other two crackers namely No - 2 and No – 3, have a production capacity of 1.03 million tons and 1.2 million tons, respectively.
