Levana sets up training school to replace retiring staff

The New Zealand based, Levana Textiles, which was taken over by 'The Merino Company', an Australian wool manufacturer, has plans to set up a fabric dyeing training institute, next year.

“We are really pleased with the initiative and have worked with Levana in the past to assist them with the development of their knitting school and now we are now preparing the curriculum to improve their dyeing school, informed, Textiles NZ CEO, Elizabeth Tennet to fibre2fashion.

Levana is in a forward momentum as its exports have surged by 43 percent in the year ending June 30 and has also established a knitting training institute.

The basic tenet behind setting up the training institutes is to train people beforehand, to replace employees who are retiring.

Around 90 percent of Levana Textiles products are produced from merino wool, however, it also manufactures cotton and polyester/cotton blended garments.

The firm has trained eight unemployed people at its knitting school in this year and also plans to train 10 people at its new dyeing and finishing school in 2011.
