Highly-functional knits by Christian Eschler at Techtextil

The Swiss knits specialist, who has manufactured highly functional materials for protective workwear clothing, active sportswear and seductive lingerie for decades, focuses at Techtextil 2011 (joint booth with the German sister company Eschler Textil GmbH, Balingen) on “Fabrics for clothing for the operating theatre and the nursing sector and on “flame-retardent fabrics”.

The extensive collection of highly-functional fabrics for operating theatre clothing stretches from 100% micro-polyester knit – inner side hydrophilic and outer side water-repellent – which is suitable for underwear worn next to the skin under the operating coat, to antistatic materials for poloshirts, tunic coats and trousers, as well as insulating knits for jackets, coats and blankets. All the materials were examined in numerous field tests and fulfil the strict requirements for use in the operating sector.

Eschler supplies permanently antibacterial hydrophilic knits for clothing in the nursing sector, ideal for poloshirts. One of the piqué qualities in this line was awarded the mark 1.0, thus “very good” by for its wearable properties. A hydrophilic warp knit with the feel of cotton for tunic coats and trousers completes the selection of materials for this sector.

All the qualities stand out due to their high respiratory qualities and excellent moisture transportation properties. These features guarantee the body a unique feeling of well-being while working. The elastic knitwear also assures maximum freedom of movement and thus improved ergonomic wearable qualities. The fabric is very robust thanks to the use of synthetic fibres and offers a high level of durability. In addition the clothing dries extremely fast after the laundering process, thus saving energy. A long life span and energy-saving – two further important aspects which prove convincing in the cost-conscious health sector!

Christian Eschler AG presents a world novelty – a flame-retardent knit, a unique combination of Aramid and PTFE yarns, which obtains an equally good result regarding moisture- and perspiration regulation as the identical fabric of 100% polyester. This innovative knit is a further development of the sweat-management system, conceived for the Swiss army, now as a flame-retardent version.

Ten years ago the knits specialist caused a sensation with the development of sweat management in collaboration with the Swiss army and the well-known test institute EMPA. Thanks to the optimally adjusted clothing system, body heat and superfluous perspiration are transported as vapour to the outside via the separate layers. It is essential that a thin layer of perspiration remains on the skin during the active phase as this assures a cooling effect. This prevents the body overheating and thus avoids an undesirable drop in performance.

The flame-retardent version of layer 1, which fulfils the specification EN ISO 11612:2008 Code A1, B1 and C1, and is worn as underwear next to the skin, is predestined for disciplinary functions at sport- and other events, for members of the police force at demonstrations and for police special units. Therefore ideal in every case where custodians of the law are exposed to contact with highly flammable projectiles. There is also demand in other sectors, such as for underwear for Formula 1 drivers, as well as for fighter-jet pilots.
