Green Mission Statement from Moral Fibre

“To contribute towards a environmentally and socio-economically sustainable world by bringing synergy in the programs and activities of poor producers of ethical fabrics, their organizations, designers, consumers and various members of the ethical fabric value chain”.
This mission statement of Moral Fibre, a home-grown Ahmedabad-based textile company led by its feisty CEO – Ms Shalini Seth says it all.
“Moral Fibre is one of the few choices for people who care about how they look as well as about the world they live in. Moral Fibre frees the environment from pollution and depletion and it also frees people from poverty”.
This second statement and the other parameters laid down by Moral Fibre speak out aloud; the concern that this emerging textile company has about the environment and the people it employs and works with.
The standards and parameters laid down by the company are similar to those demanded by the Netherlands based - World Fairtrade Forum (WFTO), in order to beget a Fair Trade certificate.
Despite which, Moral Fibre has put up an application to acquire a Fair Trade certificate. On the occasion of the World Fair Trade Day, which fell on May 14, fibre2fashion caught up with Ms Shalini Seth.
“I have been aware of Fair Trade right from the beginning. We realized right from the beginning that the workers working in the textile sector are one of the most exploited globally, along with degrading the environment to a large extent.
“Moral Fibre was set up in response to these negative factors. The goods that we manufacture are very much a Fair Trade product. I am a strong believer of the fact that even before Fair Trade came in to existence, the khadi fabric has always been a Fair Trade product.
“In my interaction with overseas buyers, I am quizzed whether my products are Fair Trade certified or any other global certification. It is very difficult to make people understand that I am following the same principles laid down by WFTO.
“This is the main reason for applying for a Fair Trade certificate. Once I get the certificate, I hope to get the whole Indian handspun and hand-woven business a Fair Trade certificate, which will definitely provide a boost to the livelihood of the underprivileged sections of the society.
“I am very confident that, Moral Fibre will be able to get the Fair Trade certificate”, she wrapped up this very exclusive interview by saying.
