Foreign trade registers 31.1% growth in H1-2010

In the first half of the current year, exports of Tunisia reached to 11,348.6 million dinars (MTD). While reaching up to 15,791.8 MTD, imports of the country recorded 31.1 percent growth compared to 2009, as per figures released by the Exports Promotion Centre (CEPEX).

Growth of mechanical and electrical industries led to the increase in Tunisian exports. By touching 3,918.4 MTD, these sectors are enjoying apex position among all the export-oriented sectors of the country.

These sectors share 34.5 percent of overall Tunisian exports. And with the exports worth 2,531.6 MTD, textile and clothing sector stands second with a share of 22.3 percent in overall exports.

With 8,281.17 MTD exports, EU remains the major consumer of Tunisian products recording 18.32 percent growth against corresponding period of 2009. As well as to North American countries and to other European countries outside the EU, these exports increased up to 115.61 percent and 101.05 percent, respectively.

Exports to Maghreb countries plunged to 975.72 MTD by 4.16 percent from 1,018.12 MTD in 2009. Moreover, exports to Far East countries too fell down by 5.14 percent.
