Telangana stir hits textile trade between Surat & Andhra

“The textile trade between Surat and Andhra Pradesh which roughly used to be between Rs 200-250 crores has now dipped to just Rs 40-50 crores”, says Mr Devkishan Manghani, former President of Federation of Surat Textile Traders Association (FOSTTA).

According to President of the Surat Textile Goods Transport Association (STGTA), Yuvraj Desale, traffic between Surat and Andhra Pradesh has fallen by around 50%. “Earlier around 45-50 trucks used to leave for Andhra Pradesh on a daily basis, which has dropped to between 20-25 trucks now”, he told fibre2fashion.

“The textile business between the two centres has been steadily dipping since the last two years ever since the  agitation intensified. We are now hopeful that now since Telangana state has been formed, business will return to normal in the coming months”, Mr Manghani adds.   

In closing, he observes, “However for actual business to return to normalcy, the more important aspect is that sellers and buyers have to regain the trust to conduct trade among themselves.” 

The resolution of the crisis and the creation of Telangana state, however has brought back optimism in the minds of the textile traders of Surat.
