Maharashtra has invited inputs from all stakeholders for a new textile policy for the 2017-22 period, cooperation, marketing and textiles minister Subhash Deshmukh said at a recent conference on achieving sustainable growth in textile and apparel industry through manufacturing excellence in Mumbai organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The government is focussed on value-added garments and technical textiles, union textile commissioner Kavita Gupta said, according to a news agency report.

Reliance Industries president (polyester chain) RD Udeshi said the demand pattern is governed by the economic growth of regions, which indicates a slowdown in developed countries while strong growth in China and India. (DS)
