In an interview with fibre2fashion, Mr. Paul Magel, president of application solutions at CGS, a leading global provider of end-to-end, technology-enabled business solutions, said, “By having technology solutions employed along the textile supply chain, there is better visibility, more productivity and access to information that allows for better decision making.”
“There are many downward pressures on prices for textile and apparel sector and in order to be able to lower prices, the costs along all aspects of the supply chain have to be lowered. One of the ways to do this is through the use of technology,” he explains.
Talking about the role of IT solutions in apparel sector, Dr. Andreas Seidl, CEO of Human Solutions, a software solutions provider for fashion and other sectors, says, “It takes on an average between 4-5 years to develop a new car model, but a new fashion collection is in the stores almost every month. Speedfashion can only be achieved through new technologies and IT solutions can really make an impact here.”
According to Mr. Magel, technology is also driven by the garment retailers. “Retailers are demanding much more accuracy and accountability from their suppliers in regard to distribution of goods to their doors as well as for vendor managed inventory and replenishment. The retailers’ rules can only be accomplished through the advanced use of technology,” he says.
“Without the technology in place, retailers will not do business with suppliers and if they do, the charge backs for non-compliance are prohibitive to make a profit,” he concludes.
