In the process of industrial upgrading and encouraging technological innovation, the application of genuine information technology (IT) products for improving industry standards is necessary, Sun Rui Zhe, vice president of China Textile Industry Association, said recently at a seminar on “Innovation and Social Responsibility – China’s textile industry, information technology services and fair competition.”

Zhe said China's textile and garment enterprises have begun to consider the issue of innovation and intellectual property protection in all aspects of the life cycle of the product.

In fact, the Twelfth Five Year Plan and the Outline to Build Textile Powerhouse (2011-20) clearly aimed at strengthening the innovation capacity of textile enterprises, fostering competitiveness and making them apply information technology.

At the same time, promoting genuine information technology and social responsibility have been put forward as new requirements in the domestic and international markets, along with fair competitive environment, especially the protection of intellectual property.

Speakers at the seminar said China’s textile export enterprises will have to pay special attention to the new trends and begin by strengthening its IT for product manufacturing. Recent U.S. bills state that as long as companies do not use genuine IT products in their production, it would be regarded as unfair competition.

A WTO representative at the seminar said the Chinese textile export firms should be sure to use the legal compliance of IT products to eliminate the use of illegal IT, which brings commercial risks. On the other hand, using legally compliant IT products would give a good reputation in the international trade, the representative added.

Chen Jin Zhi, a software expert said implementing software asset management can help the Chinese textile companies deploy depth information, save on IT costs, optimize business processes, and greatly improve the market demand and supplier collaboration.

Due to availability of huge data and boom in cloud computing, applications of IT solutions will become more sophisticated and diverse, and it would require timely deployment of IT products and an audit policy by the enterprises to ensure that IT products are used in legal compliance.
