USA : CASPIAN opposes Levi’s RFID chips in clothing May 1, 2006 |  | Levi Strauss’ RFID chips to track inventory is encroaching customer’s privacy, said a privacy group.
But company says that the process to know consumer's choice is entirely transparent.
Jeffrey Beckman, Director of worldwide and US communications for Levi Strauss, said that chips are being used on hang tags in few men’s products.
Benetton, premier apparel retailer culminated RFID chips test in 2003 after being boycotted by the Consumers Against Privacy Invasion and Numbering (CASPIAN).
CASPIAN said that time has come to stop the sell of Dockers and suspend Levi’s because it is not conforming CASPIAN’s moratorium.
CASPIAN founder Katherine Albrecht said that Levi’s considering its RFID chips as harmless but this kind of move will track consumers for marketing and advertising purpose and disturb their privacy. | | |
