Avery Dennison Corporation announced that Donald A. Nolan has been named group vice president, Roll Materials, effective March 3, 2008. He will be based in the worldwide Roll Materials headquarters in Mentor, Ohio.
As group vice president of Roll Materials, Nolan will have responsibility for the long-term strategy and growth initiatives of Avery Dennison's Roll Materials global operations. Roll Materials, Avery Dennison's largest business, is part of its pressure-sensitive segment, which had approximately $3.5 billion in sales in 2007.
"Don has demonstrated strong leadership and management skills as the head of a highly successful global packaging business," said Dean A. Scarborough, president and chief executive officer. "As head of our largest core business, Don's focus will be on developing new sources of growth and improving margins in a very competitive environment."
Nolan joins Avery Dennison from Valspar Corporation, a market-leading $3.2 billion global coatings company, where he held a number of management positions during the last 12 years, culminating in senior vice president of Global Packaging and Automotive Coatings. Prior to Valspar, he worked at Loctite Corporation, Ashland Chemical Company and General Electric.
Nolan received his B.S. in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Michigan; M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic University and M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
