Paving the way for supply management professionals, Michael G. Haynes, CPSM, C.P.M., has been the first to earn the latest credential to hit the field of supply management, the Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM).

Institute for Supply Management (ISM) launched the new credential last month during its 93rd Annual International Supply Management Conference and Educational Exhibit in St. Louis. ISM CEO Paul Novak, C.P.M., presented Haynes with a certificate recognizing his achievement at the monthly meeting of NAPM—Arizona, Inc. held on June 19.

After successfully passing all three CPSM Exams, Haynes was surprised to learn he was the first one to earn the prestigious credential. “I am honored to be the first CPSM,” Haynes said. “This designation indicates a thorough knowledge of the profession and provides all those that pursue a CPSM, a competitive advantage in their careers, within their organization and the businesses they support."

In order to earn the CPSM, Haynes had to meet all the criteria established by ISM for earning the qualification, including:
• Three years of full-time professional supply management experience (nonclerical or nonsupport);
• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution or a clear statement from a specific country's higher learning and accrediting body concerning a degree's equivalency;
• Pass all three CPSM Exams, or take the Bridge Exam if already a C.P.M. in good standing.

Haynes has more than 30 years of supply management experience, encompassing 17 management/executive positions with five different organizations. He is active in the Phoenix affiliate of ISM, NAPM—Arizona, Inc. He holds a bachelor's in education from Central Michigan University and an MBA with a concentration in logistics management from Florida Institute of Technology.

The CPSM represents the highest degree of professional competencies, containing the most comprehensive body of knowledge, and is designed to lead the profession by emphasizing the main components of supply management.

Individuals who obtain the CPSM distinction will have an advanced-level of broad-based skills to make better decisions regarding their organization's supply network, including how to take full advantage of opportunities around the world.
