Netezza Corporation announced that Shoppers Stop, India's premier retail chain, has selected the Netezza data warehouse appliance to provide faster and more comprehensive sales data analytics for its expanding retail operations throughout India.

With more than 10 million customers, close to 2 million square feet of retail space and 250 brands of garments and accessories, Shoppers Stop is one of India's fastest-growing companies and a one-stop shop for customers. Despite its success, Shoppers Stop was being hindered by a SQL Server system that could not adequately scale to meet the company's growing data demands.

When it came time to purchase a faster, easier and better data warehouse solution, Shoppers Stop evaluated multiple alternatives including Netezza, and chose the Netezza data warehouse appliance for its speed and simplicity. The Netezza appliance will provide deep analytics on sales data and help Shoppers Stop better manage its loyalty card program, “First Citizen.” Shoppers Stop will also use the Netezza appliance for campaign management and complex analytics on all of its data at the speed of thought.

“We remain committed to building world-class retail capabilities, and a focus on business intelligence and analytics is a key component of that,” said Arun Gupta, customer care associate & group chief technology officer, Shoppers Stop. “Our selection of Netezza underscores this commitment to excellence.”

“The Netezza appliance is becoming a must-have solution for retailers who are looking to gain a competitive advantage by better understanding the buying habits of their customers or optimizing their operations,” said Vishal Daga, director, India Operations, Netezza. “In fact, leading data-intensive organizations across a range of industries today are choosing Netezza because it delivers a unique combination of performance, time to value and agility that together can help redefine analytic possibilities.”

Netezza is the global leader in data warehouse and analytic appliances that dramatically simplify high-performance analytics for business users across the extended enterprise, delivering significant competitive and operational advantage in today's information-intensive marketplaces.
