Branding and design specialist Nilorn UK is using a revolutionary new DNA-based technology to put a stop to fakes and track down counterfeiters. Nilorn UK has teamed up with authentication specialists Applied DNA Sciences, to launch a unique new label incorporating its breakthrough SigNature DNA taggant to be used in conjunction with its established Nil-Secure products.

It works by applying a unique SigNature DNA marker to the inks and yarns in a label or piece of fabric and, like DNA, each mark is individual to one brand, making it the only label in the world that can not be copied, re-engineered or counterfeited. Forensic testing can determine whether a garment or label is authentic by the presence of the brand's SigNature DNA; and because it is recognised by law as positive-proof of authenticity, evidence is admissible in a court of law.

Nilorn UK md, Steve Ablett said: “Counterfeiting can cost companies hundreds of thousands of pounds yet effective security can easily be achieved with SigNature.

“By working in partnership with Applied DNA we have been able to form a formidable team in the fight against fraudsters. It's what brand owners need right now. Something that is absolutely secure, reliable and can be authenticated quickly. Counterfeiting has been a thorn in the garment industry's side for years and we feel that this is a real step forward in tracking down offenders and deterring others who may be tempted to produce imitations.”

The design of Nil-Secure/SigNature means that its incorporation in inks, dyes and yarns is completely discreet, essential for the fashion and specialist fabric industry where appearance and functionality of products as well as brand value, cannot be compromised.

The technology used by Nil-Secure/SigNature is so sensitive that in some cases it can even be detected through conventional packaging.

Said Steve: “At Nilorn we work tirelessly to offer every customer bespoke security solutions as we understand the importance of brand identity, and that each client is individual in its needs.”

Nilorn labels, tickets and packaging can also incorporate special anti-counterfeiting measures, both noticeable and hidden, that can work alongside SigNature to minimise imitations.
