E-commerce websites of India are expecting the government to waive off entry tax for e-commerce and implement measures to boost logistics and infrastructure in the upcoming Union Budget 2017-18. They also expect the budget to provide some relief to individual tax payers to increase consumer confidence post demonetisation and restore the momentum of consumption.

"Faster delivery ensures better customer satisfaction. In metros this is not a big challenge, however, when it comes to tier II and III cities, which contribute to 60 per cent of our orders, we face many roadblocks in terms of speed of delivery and reliability of services. We expect this budget to implement measures that would give a boost to infrastructure and logistics,” Sujayath Ali, founder of Voonik told Fibre2Fashion.

Waiving off entry taxes could help e-commerce reach more people. “We expect the government to waive off entry taxes for e-commerce so that it continues to reach more people,” Manoj Gupta, co-founder and CEO of Craftsvilla.com said in an email interaction with F2F.

Gupta also believes that the focus of the Union Budget 2017-18 is likely to be on digital India this year and expects the government to invest in the development of rural e-commerce.

“This time around the focus will be on digital India. The plethora of opportunities that rural e-commerce can provide would hopefully be supported by investments towards the development of the same. Easy access to high speed internet and other such areas would give the much needed push to this sector,” added Gupta.

E-commerce startups of India are also expecting this year’s Union Budget to ensure further penetration of cashless payments in consumer spending.

“There has been an upsurge in cashless transactions (online payment/wallets). A customer making online payments has a deeper engagement with the purchase process and hence we are able to deliver a much better experience. We expect the budget 2017-18 to announce a fresh set of initiatives that enables further penetration of cashless transactions in the overall consumer spending,” said Ali.

“We expect the budget to give some relief to individual tax payers, increase consumer confidence, thereby restoring the momentum in consumption,” added Ali. (KD)
