8 finalists for LVMH Young Fashion Designers prize

Luxury and fashion goods marketer LVMH has shortlisted eight designers as finalists for the 2016 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.
“The jury panel consisted of 41 top international fashion experts, drawn from all areas of the industry, who voted after meeting the 23 shortlisted designers in Paris,” a LVMH press release stated.
Coming from Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Japan, US and the UK, these eight talented designers will meet the jury on June 16, at the Louis Vuitton Foundation, when the winner of the LVMH Prize will be decided.
The finalists are; Aalto, by Tuomas Merikoski a Finnish designer based in Paris and Alyx, by Matthew Williams, an American designer based in New York.
Others include, Brandon Maxwell, by Brandon Maxwell, also an American designer based in New York and Facetasm, by Hiromichi Ochiai, a Japanese designer based in Tokyo.
Koché, by Christelle Kocher, a French designer based in Paris and Vejas, by Vejas Kruszewski, a Canadian designer based in Toronto are the other finalists.
More finalists include; Wales Bonner, by Grace Wales Bonner, an English designer from London and Y/Project, by Glenn Martens, a Belgian designer based in Paris.
“With 3 designers based in Paris in the final eight, the list reflects the vitality of the French fashion scene and the attractiveness of Paris for designers from all over the world” said Delphine Arnault, EVP at Louis Vuitton.
“Among them, Koché was a semi-finalist last year and I am also pleased to note that a Japanese designer has reached this level of the competition for the first time,” Arnault noted.
The Graduates' Prize recognises three young designers who are completing a university program in fashion design and who also win an invitation to join the design team at an LVMH brand for one year. (AR)
