Designer Gaurang Shah to show 'Chitr-sena' line at LFW

Amidst live music by classical singer Shubha Mudgal, fashion designer Gaurang Shah will showcase his creative inspiration titled ‘Chitr-sena’ or an army of art, at the upcoming LFW Winter Fest 2014 to be held in Mumbai on August 22.
The deeply rooted heritage collection re-creates magic of glorious Indian history for the modern-day fashion enthusiast. The dhotis and sherwanis created from the finest silk are tailored to perfection with zardosi embroidered wildlife.
Chitr-Sena is a line of fables and folklore that lyrically blends the 16th century temple art and the 21st century modern artist and Gaurang Shah found fitting synergy with Shubha Mudgal to showcase this collection at LFW.
Chitr-Sena revives the art of Korvai weaving of Kanchipuram narrating stories of the wild woven with modern day textures and colours. Each garment narrates a story from the Indian culture and mythology and is like an oral tradition of storytelling of weavers weaving stories onto fabrics.
Chitr-Sena has unique colour twists which include military colours like tantubha-yellow, zyama-blue, hasti-green, ayasa- grey and kasaya-brown combined with colours like sutara-yellow, succhaya- pink, suka-green and uditi- orange.
Chitr-Sena has traditional motifs like garuda, rudraksh, hamsa, shikarga,sher, bhagha, haathi, morni, and shikariare woven in kanchipuram silkdupattas and sarees in a distinctive fashion and inspiration for the line came from Afghani history resembling flowy ghaghras, anarkalis, ghararas, anghrakhas, ijarpants.
Designer Gaurang Shah said, “Chitr-Sena is like prose from Indian epics, wandering into the wild and exploring the future and the weaves in Kanchipuram, bestow a daringly different twist in colors and textures.”
The collection took over six months of labour to highlight the various textures in kanchipuram, beautifully blended with hand-weaves, traditional designs and modern artistry.
Jamdani Weaves revivalist Gaurang Shah collaborates with a team of more than 500 Indian weavers. His label ‘Gaurang’ currently has 6 stores of which 3 are in Mumbai, 1 each in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata and soon stores will open in New Delhi, Chennai and in Dubai.
