 New store-level test results on the commercial viability of item-level radio frequency identification (RFID) tagging will be reported at a major industry gathering at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas, October 27-28.
The October event, "Item-Level RFID: The Road to ROI," is the third in a series of reporting forums on the business case viability of the technology. "The findings will, in part, answer many issues in the debate on RFID's feasibility, utilization, and return on investment," said Rick Blasgen, president and CEO of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP). "As is often the case with new technologies, additional research may even be needed. But we will offer some concrete results that the industry can use when conducting its own pilot studies or adoption initiatives." He added that the findings will confirm that RFID technology can successfully address many of the problems faced in today's retail environment, including loss prevention, inventory accuracy, out of stocks, and cycle count accuracy.
Senior executives from Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Jones Apparel Group will discuss their individual store research findings. The findings confirm previous research that was sponsored by CSCMP and the Voluntary Interindustry Commerce Solutions (VICS) Association. The research was conducted by the Information Technology Research Institute at the Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas.
Presenters will include Pam Sweeney, senior vice president systems, Macy's logistics and operations, Roger Blazek, vice president, shortage control Bloomingdale's, and Norm Veit, executive vice president, MIS for Jones Apparel Group, Inc.
