The prestigious title, 'Chartered Colourist' (CCol) by the Society of Dyers and Colourist (SDC), UK, has been bestowed upon to four Indian colour technologists.

The rare honour for displaying their peculiarity in the knowledge of colour science or colour technology and contribution to society, has been handed to three alumni of the Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly, University Department of Chemical Technology) and one IIT Mumbai alumnus.

Prof CN Sivaramkrishnan, Director of Anmol Polymers Private Limited, Delhi; RV Deshpande, Proprietor, Core Management Associates, Mumbai; Vijay Sane, Chief Manager for Research and Development of Gharda Chemicals, Maharashtra and Prof Asim Kumar Roy Choudhary, Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Serampore, West Bengal, are this year's recipients of the title of CCol from India.

As per a release from SDC (Education Charity) as of now India has only 20 CCol, including the four mentioned above. The award points out to an individual's outstanding contribution to the industry or academia and thereby, to the country's economy. The award ceremony was organised at the Nottingham Conference Centre, Nottingham, about a week back.

SDC is the foremost independent, educational charity, devoted to advanced science and technology for colour, globally. The society came into existence in 1884 and was registered as an educational charity in 1962.

A Royal Charter was granted to the society in 1963 and thus it began to award the CCol status to appreciate individual professionalism and on-going learning and development in colour chemistry.

While the CCol status continues to hold the highest award-ever position for professional achievement, the society functions internationally and has offices in India, Hongkong, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China.
