In view of the great variety of textiles, e.g. woven's, knits open or tubular, nonwovens, carpets face and back and others more, Osthoff-Senge supplies different models which are equipped to meet the special requirements. Besides the use in the common textile field, Osthoff-Senge today is also successful in other fields as the singeing of technical textiles, filter media and glass. The machine program was extended by singeing machines for individual threads or yarn on beams.

Singeing of Knit-Goods in Open Width Form

Singeing machines for open-width knit-goods differ from those for wovens mainly by the guiding and transport of the fabric. The curled selvedges have to be opened as far as possible by particularly suitable devices for uncurling. Spreading and centering is effected by specially equipped slatted guide rollers. Counter rotating driven scroll rolls are placed directly in front of the burner to keep the selvedges open when the flame meets the fabric.

Osthoff singeing machines are equipped with driven slatted guide rollers and singeing rollers to minimize the tension during the thermic stress when singeing. Machines solely bought for open-width singeing are equipped with a fire quenching unit consisting of a huge driven stainless steel cylinder with an endless felt belt around it.

Besides singeing machines for knit-goods in open-width form also machines for singeing tubular knit-goods are available. It is important that in the very moment, when the flame gets active, the tubular fabric is fully opened with uniform tension over the full circumference. Still more important is that singeing is effected in an identical singeing position.

On the Osthoff VARI-JET, the tube is fully opened by the so-called singeing basket, a guiding device, on which the tube is flush fitted, guaranteeing singeing in the same position over the full circumference. There are two linear and two semi-circular burners surrounding the singeing basket. To avoid singeing marks where two flames overlap each other, one of the two flames burns with reduced intensity. The singeing basket is supported by two pairs of driven grooved wheels acting as transport devices, similar to those on conventional tube openers. The tube is slid on the basket and pulled off the basket by the fire quenching unit consisting of a huge driven stainless steel cylinder with an endless felt belt around it. Singeing residues are eliminated by a contact exhaust cleaning device, reducing at the same time the fabric temperature by the high air exchange. Fabric tension can be set as required by the fabric quality.

Osthoff-Senge has developed a process controller for singeing machines, the SENG-MATIC, with the aim of constantly guaranteeing the commercial success of textile processing companies. The operation of fabric singers is considerably simplified by this high tech product.

The function of the SENG-MATIC is based on the interdependence of the fabric temperature and the singeing effect. The use of the process controller keeps the singeing effect constant at all times, excluding the possibility of damage to the fabric. Even when the singeing machines are part of a continuous production line, where, the cloth speed varies in relation to the process, the SENG-MATIC guarantees trouble-free operation with maximum economy and excellent results. The hairiness tester is an ideal compliment to the SENG-MATIC.

Osthoff-Senge's hairiness tester provides a device which automatically recognizes the hairiness or pile height of textile materials, displays them on a screen, compares set points and actual values and adjusts the intensity of the surface processing by means of these data until the rest hairiness corresponds to the pre-set standard.

By using the hairiness tester in this way, the singeing process can be defined exactly. The process can thereby be controlled independently of the subjective assessment of the operator ensuring that it corresponds to the desired singeing effect.

Further to this, Osthoff-Senge also offers a hairiness tester to check samples. This device works on the same principle as the one described above, but instead of examining running fabric it only examines a sample piece, which is mounted in the instrument.

Impregnating

The combination of the steps - pre-deducting / singeing / post-deducting and impregnation - is the most effective and economic solution for the majority of textile finishes where the singer is a stand-alone unit.

Osthoff-Senge builds impregnating compartments with fabric contents of 10, 15 and 20 m. Upper rollers are equipped with outside ball bearings for high speeds. The lower rollers have special outside low friction bearings so it is possible to run dry if the compartment is used as a spark extinguishing steamer. To improve efficiency the compartments can be equipped with intermediate squeezers and upper roller drives. At the exit of the impregnating compartment two pneumatically operated squeeze rollers are used, with rollers in normal or stabilized execution for uniform pick-up.

For certain fabrics dry singeing is common, and it is well-known that there is a fire hazard from burning or smoldering residues. To minimize that risk the Osthoff impregnating compartments can be delivered in special execution to be used as steaming chambers as well. Spark extinguishing steamers are available for fabrics like corduroy and velvet.

For the preparation of the desiring or peroxide bleaching bath, Osthoff-Senge delivers chemical preparation stations and chemical dosing systems. The dosing system can be used for up to 6 media in liquid form. The dosing system can be integrated as part of the Osthoff programming unit.

Fabric Delivery

According to customer's requirements Osthoff singeing units can be fitted with cloth delivery devices such as batchers with friction or centre drive, plaiters or precision plaiters/stackers. Combinations of these devices are also possible with synchronization of these elements to the speed of the singeing process being guaranteed.
