As the fashion and textile industries confront the mounting environmental challenges of overproduction and waste, DOMO Chemicals offers a breakthrough solution with NYLEO® 4EARTH®, a cutting-edge biodegradable nylon 6.6 fibre designed for a more sustainable future.

Rethinking Sustainability in Synthetic Fibres
Textile waste is a growing global concern, with over one billion garments discarded each year—most ending up in landfills where synthetic fibres may take decades or even centuries to degrade. NYLEO® 4EARTH® addresses this issue directly: it biodegrades in less than five years under anaerobic landfill conditions, compared to 50–100 years for conventional nylon 6.6 fibres.

This performance is achieved through the integration of a special additive—Amni Soul Eco®, developed by Solvay— which DOMO incorporates into the polymer matrix during the fibre spinning process. The result is a fibre that retains all the durability, comfort, and technical benefits of traditional nylon, while offering a radically improved end-of-life profile.

Verified Performance, Real Results
Biodegradation of NYLEO® 4EARTH® has been rigorously tested using ASTM D5511-12, a standard method simulating high-solids anaerobic landfill environments. Over a 55+ month period, the fibre demonstrated over 90 per cent biodegradation, producing biogas (methane and carbon dioxide) and biomass—by-products that, in controlled landfill environments, can be harnessed for energy.

Importantly, NYLEO® 4EARTH® is not compostable nor oxo-degradable. It is engineered specifically for landfill scenarios, ensuring no performance compromise during a product’s useful life, and avoiding issues such as premature degradation or microplastic generation.

Technical and functional benefits
Our NYLEO® 4EARTH® matches the strength, flexibility, and abrasion resistance of virgin fibres. This means that the performance of Polyamide 66 in textiles is not impacted by functionalisation.

The same applies to the dyeing process: with our NYLEO® 4EARTH®, the well-known dyeing properties of Polyamide 66 remain unaffected.

Designed for Circularity
NYLEO® 4EARTH® reflects DOMO’s commitment to advancing circular economy principles within the textile value chain. It is available across DOMO’s high-performance fibre portfolio, allowing brand partners to offer more sustainable garments without sacrificing quality or performance.

By choosing NYLEO® 4EARTH®, brands take a significant step forward—reducing environmental impact at the fibre level and helping safeguard the planet for future generations.

Customer success story: DBT boosts sustainability and performance with NYLEO® 4EARTH® biodegradable PA66 fibre
Committed to creating environmentally responsible textile solutions, DBT—a pioneering Italian manufacturer of sliver and tops for spinning—sought a high-performance fibre that could align with its vision of a circular economy without compromising on quality or durability. By integrating our NYLEO® 4EARTH® biodegradable PA66 fibre into its product line, DBT achieved a significant leap forward in both ecological impact and textile performance.

Thanks to the fibre’s engineered biodegradability under controlled conditions, DBT was able to develop textile products that help reduce long-term plastic pollution. Unlike conventional synthetic fibres, which persist in landfills for decades, our PA66 fibre offers a sustainable alternative that maintains the mechanical properties of traditional nylon while ensuring an end-of-life pathway more aligned with global sustainability goals.

The fibre’s high tensile strength and resilience enabled DBT to manufacture tops that offer excellent durability and long-lasting performance in the final product. Additionally, its compatibility with standard textile processing and dyeing methods allowed for a seamless integration into existing production lines, minimising operational disruption and accelerating time-to-market for new eco-conscious products.

The fibre’s easy dyeability also enhances DBT’s design flexibility, enabling them to deliver versatile and sustainable products. NYLEO® 4EARTH® is used not just for its environmental credentials, but also for its premium quality.

By adopting biodegradable PA66 fibre, DBT is leading the way towards a cleaner, more circular textile future.
